Anyone have any insight on callbacks with Jones Day? Is it entirely office dependent? How about offer rates? Anything?

A 3L who worked in SV this year told me that the firm has a roughly 10-to-1 ratio.

I tell myself this is accurate. It makes the post-callback ding in SF office easier to swallow.

This. If they only offered to 1/10, that means to fill a class of 10, they would have to interview 100 people. I cannot see any law firm doing this.

DPW usually seems to be around 20-30%. 50% is not "low".

This. If they only offered to 1/10, that means to fill a class of 10, they would have to interview 100 people. I cannot see any law firm doing this.

They would need to callback more than that, because not every person who gets a Jones Day offer will accept it. In fact, probably at least 50% or so don't accept it. So they'd have to call back 200 people for 10 slots.

Not saying it's true. But I believe it for the SV office, which hired ~5 SAs. I agree that it's not entirely efficient. But the NALP-reported* average is ~41%, and not much better than one-third in the Bay Area. Seems plausible that some firms, or some satellite offices, could be really extra picky.

Depending on office you may do more interviews than in a typical NYC callback. Did one with 6 different sessions, including a 2-person coffee thing (so I met 7-8 lawyers in total). It was longer than a typical callback (outside of Cravath).

I don't think the San Diego office has even started screeners.

I imagine each office is a bit different (since they are comprised of different people) but generally things should be the same (One Firm World-wide). My best advice is to be relaxed, the hard part is over and now you just need to prove you are an out-going person who can carry a conversation for 20-30 minutes. Don't be surprised if an interview starts off with "so what do you want to know from me." Mention that you like the one firm idea and that you like the black-box / merit-based employment system. Mention you like working in teams. Good luck.

My school publishes stats for last year, keep in mind that this is for my school a T10 in CA, last year the SV office invited 7 people for callbacks, 5 attended CB's and 4 were given offers.

18% seems horrible.... I wonder what their accept to offer ratio is though? I think I recall it being very high, like 12 offers made last year and 11 acceptances (or something like that).

Keep in mind that 65 callbacks for 12 positions does not mean 65 callbacks for 12 offers. Firms don't give out offers expecting everyone to accept them. It could be that they have 65 callbacks and make 25 offers, expecting roughly 12 people to accept.

I scheduled my callback two weeks ago, and the earliest I could get in was the last week of September. The recruiter said they would be going well into October, so my callback date would not be a negative in any way.

Is it normal not to be informed of the lawyers that you're meeting with during the callback?
