I just finished some CBs, and the firms all seem fairly similar. How can I separate them? What questions should I ask any of the associates who gave me permission to follow up with additional questions? How do you really know what life is like at the firm?

Well, after you've done your CB, the big way to separate them is into "Firms that gave you an offer" and "Firms that did not"
What questions should I ask any of the associates who gave me permission to follow up with additional questions? How do you really know what life is like at the firm?
I also have this question. Both after a callback and after an offer, I've heard partners and associates say this same thing. Usually they'll hand me a business card and tell me not to hesitate if I have any questions. Do people really do this or is it just a thing they say out of courtesy? Between a callback and an offer decision, is there any reason I'd call an interviewer and ask questions?
Also, along the same question as the OP, after an offer is made, what questions (if any) should I ask?

The firms ARE all the same. What differences are you looking for? Its all corporate law. You can judge from their vault ranking whether some of doing better than others or have more prestigious partners, but its kind of like ranking law schools: Harvard Yale and Stanford all pretty much the same; CLS, NYU, Chicago awesome but at a different level. 14-50 all pretty much the same.

The work is the same, but the office culture is different. Unfortunately, there is not really a reliable way to figure that out other than working there. So pick the one you felt most comfortable at during the callback and hope for the best.
