what kind of law do you want to practice and why?

I'm wondering how I should answer this question when it comes up in my interview? I have a vague idea that I want to do transactional work due to my diverse background and the international aspect of transactional work. i also know that the kind of tranactional work I want to do is cross border M&A however I have no idea why I want to do M & A. In this case should I just answer transactional? or include the M&A aspect. (My interviewer is an M&A lawyer)

Explain. This makes no sense. You just said "I know I want to do M&A, but I have no idea why I want to do M&A."
Are you just attracted the fact that it has "cross border" in the title?
Also, there isn't really such a thing as a specific practice area called "cross border M&A." There is M&A work, and the attorneys in that group will usually do all the deals that the client does, including both purely domestic deals and those with a cross-border aspect.

I am disappoint. I was hoping this thread would allow me to express my interest in international human rights entertainment law.

What about cross-border M&A appeals to you? If you can tell your interview what this practice entails and why you those things appeal to you, that is a good answer. If it "just sounds cool," you might come across disingenuous. Screeners look out for people paying lipservice to certain practice areas looking for brownie points.
