Hi,
I came across a firm that asked for two professional references. I was wondering if that means a letter of recommendation or list of references.
Thanks in advance!

I'm almost certain that would be a list of references they can call if they choose

No. References and letters of recommendations are two different things. If a potential employer asks for references, include a page with the name, title, organization, and contact info of people that they can contact. Make sure the people who you list know that they are listed.

I'm in a tricky spot with my employer. It's already understood that I can come back next summer if I want, but I'm still going to do OCI and hope to trade-up.
Employer doesn't know this. I don't think they'd be personally offended or anything, but I'm still worried asking for a reference wouldn't be the best move. Add on top of this that this is my first legal position so there are no other former employers I can get solid references out of.
Advice?
