Can't hurt to send transcript also. As long as your grades are impressive, you should flash them around as much as possible. Writing sample and references should only be sent if specifically requested.
..aaaaannd what if youre grades are at the median? and the school median is low - B/B+?

didn't UCLA or someone add .3 to every student's gpa recently? that sure would be helpful right about now..
If you are median, then don't bother with transcript. You only send one if you want to draw attention to your grades, not when you wish to divert attention from your GPA.

I go to MVP and my grades are a bit above median and I've been sending out transcripts. And I think it was Loyola that padded people's GPA's.

I think that is true if your grades are very low, but if you are around median, not including it may cause recruiters to think the worse. Also, almost all the big firms that I've been mass mailing explicitly say that they want a transcript.

Okay...but then do you put your GPA on your resume? For example, if you only send a resume and cover letter in your mass mailings, would you make sure to have your GPA on your resume so they at least have some idea of your grades? I feel like personally, anything above a 3.0 I'd at least put on the cover letter so they know what they are getting.

I would definitely put your GPA on your resume, but that would be the extent of it. You want to inform them without dwelling on it (i.e. by sending a transcript that brings continued attention to grades that you don't want them to focus on).

Has anyone heard back from Baker Botts yet? I e-mailed them last week and still no word. Should I call them today to see what is going on with my app?

Sent about 50 emails over the last two weeks. Haven't heard anything, good or bad, yet.

Got three responses from Boston firms (2 are V100) via email, within 48 hours of emailing them my resume and cover letter.

Another firm sent out a "thanks for the materials, we'll get back to you in a few weeks"

I followed OCS advice and emailed a ton of firms (even ones coming to EIW). I have gotten maybe a half dozen emails saying that they are interested and to please bid on them/stop by hospitality suites but that they aren't going to bring me in prior to coming on campus, I have gotten maybe 3 or 4 flat rejections (both email and regular mail), and silence from everyone else.
I guess none of that is really a surprise though. I was expecting some response from the secondary market where I grew up (and firms not coming to EIW), but dead silence from them as well.

Was wondering what people thought of this strategy (yes, I know its pretty questionable):

At my school, there are a solid 100 or so firms I'm interested in. We can bid on 50. It is pure lottery, so I guess that means employers don't know who bid on them or where they were ranked. All they know is who managed to get an interview with them through the lottery. So my thought was to mass mail the 50 firms I am NOT bidding on, and just tell them that I am very interested in speaking with them, but just missed out in the lottery due to bad luck. That way I can get in touch with them early.

I know, I know. I keep getting burned by them and just keep going back for more. I thought it was a dumb strategy given that i'm at GULC where almost every employer comes to EIW week. Basically I am chalking the time I spent mass mailing up as research for when I interview/stalk the firms' hospitality suites.

Have an interview with a V25 next week that's supposed to last a couple hours (so not quite a screener, not quite a callback, it seems). Anybody go through one of these yet and would be willing to shed some light on what I can expect?

This whole mass mail thing has been a great idea. Got 2 more invites today, in addition to the one from earlier this week. All are from large regional firms right around my home market. I just transferred schools so pretty much all the big Vault firms are coming, so my mass mailing has just been for more regional firms that don't happen to be visiting campus. 2 interviews sound like callbacks (they mentioned it would be for a few hours and with a few different people), and one specifically said they would like me in for a screening interview. Still very happy with these results. I wonder if it has more to do with being top 10% at my old school, or whether its more than I transferred into CCN that is getting these bites.

Okay, do any of you know what gpa the LA lit boutiques (read Quinn, Irell, MTO) are looking for, especially from non-CA schools? All sources suggest they have strict cutoffs, but I can't seem to find what they are - no info on this from our CSO. Anyone else have details?

Within one week: V100 HQ'ed in my home market called to set up and interview and V10 said they will get back to me in a few weeks.

MVPBDCNG to HYSCCN transfer

E-mailed a V20 firm that doesn't come to our OCI about an in-office screening interview while I'm close to the firm's location for the summer.

Reply:

Mr. X,

Please let us know if you joined a journal since transferring.

Thanks,

i had one of these hybrid screener/callbacks in january for a 1L position. it's treated like a callback since there most likely won't be another round of interviews after.

I sent around 50 last week–a mix between my home market and NYC- and heard back from a few. They were pretty much all neutral responses, except one that said they've already made all their 2L offers ( :?: :!: )

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
