Top Law Schools

So what do the valedictorians of Harvard and Yale do right out of law school? I guess what I mean, what is that absolute best job / path right out of law school?

The answer is: whatever they want to do. If they wanted big law they go to a V10 like WLRK or Cravath. If they wanted a clerkship maybe they got a SCOTUS clerkship. If they wanted a government job maybe they got directly hired as an AUSA (I don't think this happens right out of law school).

What I mean is it would depend on the person and their individual goals.

There's also little in the way of jobs truly limited to 'valedictorians' of H/Y. The most competitive and desirable positions (Bristow, competitive clerkships, academia, elite firms and elite boutiques, DoJ and other major federal employers, ACLU and other major public interest groups, major city public defender type offices) all look at both a wide range of applicants and don't require something like #1 in the class from HYS. Anybody with those stats is likely to wind up at a job where the rub elbows with proles who could only muster top 5% at MVP or even worse if the position looks heavily towards commitment to PI / publications and less to a straight GPA shooting match. For the most competitive jobs, it also gets political (lowercase p, not ideological or R v D or anything) and based a lot on who you know / who can make a call for you / who will pick up on the other end.

Same here. Whenever I've read his name, my brain always went with "The Sealocust".
