Off-campus job fairs—worth the fuss?
My school hosts a job fair in NYC that's exclusive to our students. I just got notified today that I was preselected for 6 of them. However, common TLS wisdom seems to indicate that my GPA and school rank would give me very little shot at these firms (~top 40%ish at a T17). So it's got me questioning whether I was selected only as a filler since they need to interview x # of people, and if so, I really don't want to spend the airfare to go there.

Your school might make you go if selected. Mine does, I'm pretty sure.

You got preselected. It's not like it was a lottery system.
Go. What do you have to lose? A little bit of time and money. What do you have to gain? Big firm job.
Even if your odds of success are low, the calculus still says to go.

This means there's some interest on their part. Just wow them at the interview.Aston2412 wrote:You got preselected. It's not like it was a lottery system.
And because you'll be meeting with 6 firms, I think that more than justifies the airfare. If you only had 1, I'd be much more hesitant.

Dear TSL,
Even though I think I'm not going to get a job, should I make sure I go to as little interviews as possible?
Yours Always,

I narcissistically assume he was referring to me (TheSeaLocust). As such I shall chuckle and modify my world view for nothing, especially since I often deride people for asking questions like "I want a job, should I apply for one or not?"Desert Fox wrote:Subtle BJS trolling.mths wrote:You've finally managed to spell an acronym wrong.Desert Fox wrote:Dear TSL,
