No journal results till early August?!

So I am safe for a secondary with a small chance at LR. The school will not release results till early August but I need to mass mail NOW. What to do? Send with no journal on resume seems like a surefire way to get nothing and waste a lot of time, sending and guessing secondary journal may hurt me if I make LR (and might be kinda fraudulent), and sending with an addendum at the end of the cover letter saying updated resume will be sent as soon as results are in (kinda like 1L's did with grades) but this just seems like it has no chance to work since the 5% of firms that may take a look at a cold mailing will toss it when they see it. Thoughts?

No journal news until August--what school is that? I'd get to mass mailing now--August is too late (grades are what ultimately matter with the big firms anyways)

Go ahead and send them out now, then update later if you end up making law review. Having a secondary journal on there won't make an iota of difference for mailing purposes.

Pretty much +1. Maybe under the law school / academic portion of your resume add a bullet point "Note: Journal tryout results forthcoming" so that it doesn't look like an obvious hole, but otherwise it's the best you can do given the circumstances.

I don't know what school the OP is coming from, but that's how it's done at Hastings.

In fact, OCI bids are due Monday, with a lot of employers stating preferences for journals/law review. And no one, except the top 3 students in each section who graded on, has any idea if they made law review or a secondary.

I'm not a fan, especially considering we had a 10 page packet, and a 2400 word limit essay. No production test. Not everyone takes part in the competition - I know quite a few who didn't. So I don't get why they come out so late.

I would agree to say "Journal competition results forthcoming." It's a tough bind. You definitely don't want to put "law review results forthcoming" there, so as to minimize the hole if you don't make the flagship journal.

I agree with this.

You send your resume based on where you are now (today). Do not guesstimate or put on anything hypothetical. If you are called for an interview, you will be taking your resume to the interview anyway. Just bring an updated resume that reflects where you are when you go to your interview.
