"Short Form" of Firm Name in Cover Letter

This is probably a stupid question, but in a cover letter should I be writing "Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton" or is "Sheppard Mullin" OK? Is there ever a time when the shortened version is not acceptable?

While it is unlikely to matter, I would use the firms full name, in the form they present it on their website, for all written correspondence. They tend to do so when writing you letters.

you should be writing the full name out the first time you mention the firm. after that you can use the short version.

Dear Recruiting Committee at Skadden, Arps, Slate, makihfsakugr, and Flom,
I am writing because I have heard associates maintain a balanced and healthy life while working at Skadden. During my brief prison stint, I heard about the pro-bono work your firm does on behalf of inmates, and got the name 'Skadden' tattooed on my left fist and 'Arps' tattooed on my right. In short I would be the perfect fit for Skadden, and we should ice each other some time, bro.

Long form first, then "you bitches" thereafter. Saves from having to change quite so much when mass mailing.

MoFo uses MoFo all the time. It's all over their website, correspondence, their attorneys use it often as well.

How about during interviews? I would think to only mention a shortened form, but how does this work?

imagine saying Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher and Flom LLP everytime!
for interviews, i would only use the "official" shorten name (i.e. Skadden Arps or Skadden).
i wouldn't say SASMF.
