Top Law Schools

Anyone know when these come out? I thought they said the second week of July.

Should be very soon. I on the board of one of the secondary journals at NYU and our final rankings of students were due today I believe.

So does anyone know if we'll hear today? How long does it take for the matching system to work after rankings have been turned in?

Well, nothing here today, although I suppose that's not definitive. Definitely this week, I would imagine.

A friend just got a call from the Journal of International Law & Politics.

So how does this work -- they typically call? Or e-mail, or what?

Depends on the journal. I'm not sure which journals call vs. email.

Secondhand I think Annual Survey is making calls.

Gotta say, I'm kind of pissed at my friend who told me he had heard! I had forgotten all about this stuff. Discussing on a forum is one thing, but come on, why would you start texting people right away? That said, I'm not surprised because it was totally a law school/1L thing to do.

I just heard from the NYU Review of Law and Social Change.

How did you forget about this stuff?? <-- jealous!! I think it's normal for really close friends to tell each other, but I can see how it would be a little galling to get an immediate text from anyone less.

Law & Business is calling!!

Anyone know how many people typically apply for journals at NYU, and how many people actually get them? I thought I read someone saying that 80% of people who apply get them, but that seems a bit high.

As for how many people get something... There are about forty slots on each journal (fewer for Law & Business, I think), and 8 journals + Moot Court... That's around 350 or so slots. Considering some of the 450 rising 2Ls don't do the writing competition or only apply to Law Review, 80% getting some journal/moot court doesn't seem unrealistic.

Has anyone else still not heard anything yet? Does that basically mean we're not getting an invitation at this point?

I know someone who has a 3.83 and did not get on

Last year I think it was about a 3.85 or so. It will vary from year to year though. Also I think they take the write ons and then go to grade ons so if someone in the top X students writes on they'll go further down in the grading. And of course there are people that would grade on that don't do the writing comp.

any more recent info on GPA cut-off or what whether write-ons or grades are taken first?
