When should I be mass mailing?

Depends on the firm, but this week is fine for most of them.

For firms that are coming to my school's OCI, and that I'm bidding on, I'm going to wait until I definitely don't have an interview with them before mailing. For firms that aren't coming to OCI, I think July/early August is appropriate (although I doubt you'll hear back unless/until they know how many people they are going to take through OCI). Personally, I am thinking of starting this weekend.
On a related note, about how many firms are you guys planning on mass mailing? Is 40-50 or so going to cut it, or should I be doing more? I'm targeting NYC & a secondary market.
