Top Law Schools

Top ten school have great grades and thought my improvement might help land a firm job, please don't make the mistake I did. Our job posting site currently has countless postings for 2l sas and two firms looking for 3ls: a modesto firm that pays 75k and a ny firm that requires top ten percent. Our oci stats indicate THREE people got offers from 3l oci last year. Oci is a one shot deal, if you don't get it don't make my mistake of assuming improvement will help land a solid job. Try withhold paying tuition til oci is done.

Which top ten? what went wrong at oci? what are "great grades"?

Was around median bid too specifically now around top 15%... but at this point its irrelevant

Dude, with top 15% grades at a top 10 you are still going to eventually find a job. OCI and school job boards are not the be-all end-all -- they represent a small fraction of legal hiring. What you are saying is true for a lot of law students but you just sound lazy and entitled and expecting things to fall into your lap. You have to suck it up and do informational interviews, contact alumni, talk to your career people, do internships during 3L, send out mailings, etc. Smaller and midsized firms prefer to hirer closer to actual start dates because they're not in as much of a position to commit as early. Some clerkships are also probably within your reach.

Was advised that clerking is out with my grades. have done countless informational interviews... Problem is small and mid size firms require experience... Why me when you can have an hls jd with 5 years experience

troll. no one is "out" with top ten school, top 15% grades. That's like COA territory.

Coa is more like top 5% there are a ton of grads with amazing w/e... Like everything else entry level hiring has dried up.

As numerous posters have mentioned, you can get a district court clerkship somewhere. If you get that, you will have firms contacting you for jobs. Literally, apparently this is a well kept secret--even on this website. I've met numerous attorneys in the last few months who actually worked at one firm 2L summer (or no firm at all) and after/during their clerkship firms would contact judges looking to hire their fed clerks when they were finished. On top of that, you are eligible to apply to DOJ honors after a fed clerkship (actually even without one, but you probably wouldn't be hired without the clerkship). Ironically enough, DOJ honors is probably a better route than biglaw. Basically, hopefully you aren't from NYC, DC, or California. If not you should send out applications to dist court judges where you are from, and you will probably get a job clerking for one of them.

I would even believe OP if they said they just struck out on clerkships, but nobody would "advise them" not to apply.

This isn't the first thread that keeps me considering an MD.

Anyone smart enough to get into med school isn't dumb enough to go to law school instead.

By the way, to any of you 2L's that would actually considering dropping out after paying gobs of tuition that you will never be able to pay back without your top 10 JD......don't listen to anon trolls.

Flame.. or in California, and targeted primarily or only California firms? I've heard that some people (at Boalt for instance) who had pretty decent to strong grades struck out if only targeting CA...
