How should I refer to my summer position in my resume?

I just got a job at a local law firm. The position requires me to conduct legal research to assist a lawyer (sole practitioner). I get to work from home. Should I call myself a Research Assistant, Summer Associate, or something else? I know ordinarily, this would be called a SA position, but the only thing that's giving me pause about that title is the fact that I work from home.

You should try for "summer associate," especially if this is your 2L summer.

Still ask, but maybe in the form of "I'm putting this on a resume; do you mind if I refer to it as a summer associate position?"

Also, if I don't live in the town where the firm is located, should I still include that town next to the firm's name in my resume?

Yes.
