If this is the summer after your 1L year and you're applying for summer jobs, do you call yourself a second year law student? I just realized I've been submitting cover letters calling myself a 1L....

ummm. You finished your 1L, so you are no longer a 1L. This makes you a 2L. duh.

I'm using "rising" second year student, but I really doubt it matters as you note the "second year" part.
