as cliche as it sounds, it's not the heat, it's the humidity. The city was built on a fucking swamp. I can handle 110 degrees in Oklahoma because it's dry. But in DC, you break a sweat walking at 8:30 in the morning because it's 90% humidity.fatduck wrote:i will never cease to laugh at people who complain about hot summers in D.C.

i've spent summers in florida, georgia, and west point (humid as hell, surrounded by the hudson river). northern summers don't compare.Flips88 wrote:as cliche as it sounds, it's not the heat, it's the humidity. I lived in VA for 15 years, even the god awful swamp lands of Richmond weren't as badfatduck wrote:i will never cease to laugh at people who complain about hot summers in D.C.
I'd put DC almost on par w/ Lagos, Nigeria, as far as the most uncomfortably muggy places I've visited

What is really bad is DC in a building w/o AC. It is like going from an oven inside to a sauna outside. I also love the summer weather and humidity in D.C. bc I'm not a pussy.

Wouldn't a room without A/C be more of a steam room than a sauna? Just saying.
The worst is the ball/crotch sweat in D.C. Good god, I worked there on the Hill for a summer and after 5 blocks of walking, felt like I had dipped my boxers in a lukewarm bath.

Back sweat is the worst. Because you're pretty sure it's there, but you can never be 100% certain, so you just leave your coat on all day...

I'm from the South too and while you're right, those places are bad, D.C. is equally bad 95% of the time. Why? Because D.C. also has the concrete jungle effect going on with its 90% humidity.fatduck wrote:i've spent summers in florida, georgia, and west point (humid as hell, surrounded by the hudson river). northern summers don't compare.Flips88 wrote:as cliche as it sounds, it's not the heat, it's the humidity. Today was better! Don't worry, I'm not gonna do daily updates on how sweaty I am when I get into the office (unless you guys want me to, do you?). But back sweat is one of the worst because then you don't wanna lean back in your chair; gross feeling.

Re: i hate dc in the summer
my office allows men to go tie-less during summer here in dc. when i see men walking down the street in ties... fuckin a man. you know the people who set these ridic dress policies are various upper management a-holes who drive or get driven to work from mcclean in fancy cars with a/c and british cyborg gps women who give them directions on how to get from their 6,000 sq ft mccmansions to their reserved underground parking spots.

I see where he's coming from, but I just don't think I could take that elevator. Too much piss in that elevator. In the heat, the stench of it is just too much.Flips88 wrote:Flips88 wrote:
The other day the up escalator was out and I walked it. Ugh. Next time, I think I'll just pay a fare to go to the exit on the other side of the station.

^^^^^^
There's no reason to choose between elevator and escalator. Usually they are both broken.

I had to walk up that when I went to lunch in Dupont today! They had an ambulance parked at the top because I guess people were keeling over from the few minutes of exercise.Aston2412 wrote:That's almost every day with DC metro. Also, forgot to add: when I moved to DC I bought some of these Under Armour shirts to wear under my dress shirts instead of cotton undershirts. Smartest thing I've ever done. They breathe and are a bit longer than my cotton undershirts so they don't come untucked or bunch up.

Re: i hate dc in the summer
I lived in FL most of my life; DC is nothing in comparison. Not sure what kind of suit you're trying to wear, but lighter fabrics make a big difference. I give you the benefit of the doubt & don't think you've been walking around in 100% wool, but just sayin a different suit could certainly help
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
