Is there a good listing that indicates the students from which the district courts and COA are fed?

OL going to a T25-T30 that is interested in what it takes to even have a shot in getting something federal.

Is there district level information of particular relevance that should be known about?

A lot of the data that I've culled on TLS has been helpful, but I was just hoping for something more specific.

Edit: Does off-plan mean that they the judges are not available to apply for through the usual streams (what exactly are these, anyway)?

You will probably get more relevant information by asking your career services office for a list of past clerkships that students from your school have secured, and their stats (GPA, law review, etc.). If they don't know this information or won't give it to you, then you can assume the numbers are not good.

Off plan means that you apply to judges prior to the date set by OSCAR (the online system that is supposed to provide the main avenue for clerkship hiring). All alum applicants apply off plan, so "on plan" is only for 3Ls, and then only with judges who follow the plan. These days, probably due to the huge volume of applications from alums, most hiring seems to be off plan.

Outside of the top 10 to 14 schools or so, getting CoA becomes increasingly unlikely. It's very individual though - each judge has their own preferences for hiring their 2-4 clerks, which means it's hard to speak in broad trends. You'll need top academic credentials from any school to be competitive for a federal clerkship, but from a place outside of the T10-T14ish schools it starts being more like "top of the class." Such schools probably send under 10% of the class into federal clerkships, and there's likely a strong correlation with grades.

thanks, was just curious as to the probabilities, just trying to understand what options are open so I can make the best use of my time.
