I have to put in a serious plug for thetiebar.com. It's always pissed me off how much ties cost. I just want something that's silk, looks nicely made, and has a decent, not loud and hideous pattern. Brooks Brothers makes great ties, but I'm just not willing to spend $75-130 each. IMO, you need to invest in a good suit (one before OCI, a few before SA starts - though if your firm doesn't require full suits, then you can probably get away with only owning 1-2) and nice shoes, but expensive ties are just an extravagance. Anyhow, the ties on this site are well-made, silk, and look pretty good. Some of them are definitely ugly, but a lot are totally decent. Most importantly: $15 each.

I like that you can experiment with different shirt and suit combos, that's cool. Thanks for the tip!

Thanks for the tip. As soemone who recently bought one of those BB ties, and felt totally ripped off, I thank you!

I don't doubt the merits of this site, but I can't buy a tie without seeing it and touching it, you know?

The very reason that I balk at the idea of buying an inexpensive Topman suit

At the BB outlet, or when they have a sale, you can get 3-4 ties for $100.

To be fair, there are actual standards for ties that don't vary person to person, so I think buying a tie online is going to be more safe.

I guess I wasn't clear. I guess I meant that for those who are picky, online shopping can be a bit risky

You should take SBL's word re: the quality of the ties. He would not lead a bro astray.
