How to Choose Firms for OCI Bidding

I'm a 1L at MVP and somehow, I was fortunate enough to finish this year at around top 10%. I'm now looking toward OCI at the end of the summer and trying to figure out which firms to target. Our CSO tells people to bid based on GPA, but thankfully, I should be able to meet the (unofficial) cutoffs at most firms. I know the market in which I want to work, but I have a hard time telling firms apart. Aside from NALP forms and rankings such as Vault and Chambers, does anyone have any recommendations on how to go about selecting firms for OCI bidding? I appreciate any helpful suggestions or experiences. Thanks!

I've found BBLP (Building a Better Legal Profession) really helpful, since you can compare firms in a particular market, instead of nationally. The data for attrition is also a good way to tell what the quality of life at the firm is like. Firm websites also fudge their "commitment to diversity" on their websites a lot, so this site is helpful for seeing the raw numbers/how they stack up against each other.

1) Figure out what you want to do, and bid firms that do that.

-or-

2) bid firms with large class sizes, as those firms are more likely to let you figure out what you want to do after you start.
