Top Law Schools

I'm at UT, seems a lot of kids with Texas ties, in the top third, were able to get them. How about your school?

20% or so at my top 10.

At HYS, I'd roughly estimate about 25-30% of my classmates have 1L SAs, just from my friends and anecdotal experience. I haven't seen any numbers, but I'd imagine quite a few of my classmates self-selected out of 1L SAs to do public interest or government work.

I don't know man, that seems kinda high. I was thinking 1L SA meant V100 firms (or comparable in smaller markets), and I can't imagine 75% got those, even from HLS.

oh no i def think 75% is high, but i mean just honestly speaking, out of the random ppl i knew lol, it was 75%

and you're right, i did include a few non V100s but were firms that paid pretty well, sry taking those out more like 50%

If we're talking an actual SA, with a market or semi-market paying firm who's actually considering hiring the SA as a first-year associate post-law school, probably 3-5% at UCLA.

If we're talking "paying firm job" probably closer to 15%.

UNC - I'd say about 15-25 people got a paying SA position.

T-30, 7 in my section of 87 (4 were URM, 1 was related to a named partner)

T1, super low percentage. Maybe 3% or so, not counting kids who got hooked up through a 1L summer diversity program?

lol read my follow-up post for a slight reality check; but my sample pool is pretty small, about 10-15 ppl? at random. half have 1L SAs at V50s/up, and half of the other half have 1L firm jobs that are paid (less than mkt rate i believe) but not necessarily V100 firms or anything

Just an add-on for clarity, DoubleChecks seemingly goes to Harvard, based on his profile, and therefore the high percentage is less shocking. However, even for Harvard, it seems on the high side, and is probably not representative of the entire 1L class. On average, it seems as though most T14 schools have 10-15 1L SAs (at V100 firms, with obviously more at firms outside that subset), and schools from T30 or so tend to have 5-8. Outside that, you need to be an URM and have top 1% grades (or do something like patent law with a strong technical background) to really have a hope for a 1L SA position at a V100 firm. If you check NALP figures, most firms have no more than 1-2 1L SAs, so the total number of spots available is very low.

quite possible, even probable. i think my personal experience is really just a fluke due to the small sample size.
