Urgent- Advice for asking for a split?!

Friday I accepted a position with a Federal District Court in my secondary market. I loved the judge and the clerk and the area, and she uses her interns as clerks rather than assistants as some judges do. It sounds like the best experience I could ever get, and I am truly excited to get the position.
Today I received an interview offer from the Federal Appeals Court in my target market with an incredible judge. I know the judge takes split summers, I need advice for how to contact the District Court and discuss the possibility of interviewing with this Judge and splitting. I'm worried about putting my foot in my mouth, or sounding ungrateful.
