Anyone have a sense of how larger firms would view this experience when it comes time for 2L OCI?

And where would it fall compared to in-house intern at a large company or USAO?

Also curious about the hiring process beyond the interview - is an offer contingent on a background check or is that only for the USAO?

Are all government positions generally subject to background checks?

USAO positions are pretty slick; if you're planning on Bankruptcy work US Trustee is pretty decent but I think personally I'd rather have the USAO.

If you have an offer in hand, I'd lean towards accepting whichever has given you the offer. Furthermore, take what will give you the best experience.

What kind of work would an intern for a US Trustee engage in?

I have an offer from a civil section of the DOJ and I have to do a fairly extensive background check for it.

Well got the job and accepted the offer today. I would still love some inside info on the topic anyone has to offer.

Also, the inference from above poster is confirmed - the position does run a background check similar to other 1L government internships.

Otherwise if the post remains cold I'll compile information throughout my experience for future interns to reference.

So far as I know the position would include aiding, researching, and writing memos related to investigations on Chapter 7 fraud cases, Chapter 11 restructuring plan supervisions, preparing office paralegals for 341A meeting of the creditors, means test evaluations, etc.

I was also told that you have the chance to work on and observe depositions and litigation matters related to fraud cases as the may arise. Really depends and varies based on what comes through the door while you work there and what cases are common in the jurisdiction.

Sounds fun. I'm gonna do it, unless a firm hail mary comes through. My stuff is on the way as well.
