Should i take a paid atty position in public interest law ( I want to do civil litigation at a private firm) in PA. OR should i reject the offer and shoot for NYC, which is what I really want to do. I have some money to support myself for 6-7 months while looking for a job in NYC

Dood, take the bird in hand. If you don't have a job lined up in NYC by now, the odds are strongly against you.

My problem is that I have acquired a substantial amount of experience in a certain field within civil litigation and I do want to work for a reputable law firm someday. I feel like PI work will ruin this ambition

So with all of this "substantial amount of experience," why do you not have a job lined up in this field?

I don't know...firms aren't hiring.

Lolz. So firms aren't hiring, but you want to go to NYC and hope to find a job?

Yeah. So many people don't have jobs. Take the job. There are people from all over t14 adn T1 breaking/trying to break into nyc. You think if you show up, as t2, who did not get a job after school ended, they will hire you?

Not trying to be mean- theres no way in hell I could ever get NY.
Really though, just go with the PI job.

I know 3L's who are applying as legal assistant's because the market is so bad. You have a job offer, take it.

Big firms in NY are hiring. They're just not hiring you.

Take the offer you have. Any T2 3L should feel lucky to have a paid job offer ITE. You are not getting NY BigLaw at this point.
