Which bar exam to take?

Obvious answer: the one for the state you plan to practice in. Duh.

Except it's not so simple for me. I am THRILLED to have gotten a great 2-year clerkship for after graduation. The judge requires me to take (and pass) a bar, but it can be for any state. At this point in my life, where I might be practicing in 2 years is a giant question mark. Likely it will be CA or DC, but I'm not taking the CA bar unless I have an offer in hand for a job that requires it. Soooooooo, thoughts?

If I were in that position I would take the California bar. Waiving into D.C. is a simple matter, and California employers are likely to prefer candidates who are already admitted to practice in the state.

I say California, but Delaware might not be a bad choice (if you're interested in corporate law, of course).

Wait, why would that be "trolly?"

Thanks for input.

Should mention that I'm super-PI, so attractiveness to firms isn't an issue. Also perhaps key to note that part of the reason I'm leaning away from CA is that I have Rheumatoid Arthritis (autoimmune condition that causes fatigue and joint problems). Getting accommodations for something like RA is difficult, because it's just harder to document how much fatigue matters, so while I may apply for accom, I'm not counting on getting them. Making a state with only one day of essays a much better bet for me not wearing out/ending up in a ton of pain. (Obviously if I need to take a 3 day exam, I can, but when there are so many ?s about the future, this is an immediate difference I can be pretty sure of.)

After spending the last good while googling around, thinking Maryland may be the state for me. Especially since there aren't on-going CLE requirements...

Oh yeah, and obviously not taking the DC bar itself, as why not get two for the price of one.
