Where is the cut-off for biglaw? Is it every firm in NLJ 250 biglaw?

I would say NLJ 250 + any firm paying at or near market for the city. So in Ohio for example it would be any firm that paid over 100k.

For me the "big" in "biglaw" is big money.

+1

I agree with this, but I think some people might be specifically targeting big firms or big prestige. I'm personally a lot more excited about above-market salary.

Who cares? You could call it fecal law and I'd gladly work there for a nice salary.

The only reasonable argument would be from about $20,000 below market to infinity.

Thus in NYC, $140,000+

In New Orleans, $70,000+

In Jackson and Birmingham, $85,000+

In Atlanta, $120,000+

I can see people caring in so far as it applies to conversation. no one wants to look like a dick head by using a phrase wrong.

This can't be quite right, can it? Small firm with market or above salary= generally accepted definition of boutique, right?

Isn't "biglaw" large firms with hundreds of lawyers in multiple cities (and sometimes across continents) that pays associates models and bottles-type money? And a boutique a small-firm with a specialty that commands those high salaries (and thus differentiating them from shitlaw)?

Yes, high-paying boutique =/= "biglaw."

Shucks, I am only 6' 1", 260 lbs (a splitter, if you will). Maybe some of my interesting work experience would convince a 'BigLaw' firm to give me a chance...

I don't know man.....at least you are on the good side of the splitter continuum. You basically have no shot as a 6'7, 185 pounder.
