Fed Judge Internship v. USAO v. Boutique SA v. Corporate

1L Summer, outside of a primary market:

Federal District judge externship
USAO speaks for itself
Boutique firm is in your practice area and pays
Corporate in-house is closely related to your practice area and pays

You can afford not to get paid, but not by a lot.
There is potential to split the summer.

What would you choose and why?

I'd like to hear more details on the bolded, and also any preferences for post-grad employment.

I can't see any way the cr is not split bw externship and boutique firm (assuming it pays better than corporate in-house)

Enough money to make it til COA loans come through again, but only if you spend pretty wisely.
District judge most likely would not oppose a split summer
USAO is only half summer or part time whole summer

OP here:

For those of you posting split summer, which two things are you splitting time with?

Are you keeping a judge waiting while you consider this? Because that's a no-no.

if you have that many options for a 1L summer job, you're probably not going to have any problems getting whatever kind of job you want during 2L OCI. just do whichever job is the most interesting/convenient for you. it won't make a difference which you choose in the long run

Regardless of whom you split with, this must be part of your summer.

OP here:

Don't worry, I am not keeping the judge waiting. I have an interview coming up, but one of my professors said to be prepared to decide when I get there for the interview, as many federal judges offer internships on the spot when you walk in for the interview.

If you are interested in a clerkship post-grad, there is a benefit for working for a Fed judge during the summer.
For instance, my judge (why anon) introduced me to every judge on the district where I worked, and at the local COA. He also has a standing offer to write a letter/make a phone call on my behalf when clerkship app time comes around. That sort of recommendation is hard to find anywhere else.
