It will be interesting to see how much better 2010 OCI was compared to 2009.

I predict less of a shitshow than the previous year at least.

How long after this do they estimate next summer's class sizes (OCI this year)? June-July or before that?

Is this the data they'll be presenting?

Average class size fell from 12 to 8. Increase in offer rates to around 87% from a low of 69% the previous year. Offer rate averages used to be in the 90s.

14% of firms hiring 3Ls up from 3%. Historical averages were between 25 and 50%

Median numbers of offers from mega firms rebounded from 2009 but less than half of historical numbers.

17% of firms that had summer program in 2009 did not have one in 2010.

Summary:
Fall recruiting picked up a lot since 2009, but still lagging far behind pre-recession levels. Major markets improving, while some secondaries (i.e. Miami, Atlanta) don't appear to be yet.

It will be interesting to see how much better worse 20108 OCI was compared to 20097.
NALP data lags OCI by years.

Are you sure? The trends they were discussing make more sense if we assume they were discussing OCI 2010 rather than c/o 2010 OCI. Most of their data pointed to a dip and recovery that wouldn't have happened from 2005-2008.

"Brand new results from NALP’s Survey of Legal Employers on Fall Recruiting and Associate Deferrals include the finding that 87% of summer associates received an offer from their summer employer. This after the rate plunged to 69% for the summer 2009 class. 87% is in line with the offer rates experienced from 2003 thru 2008. But, class sizes also were notably smaller, on average, in 2010 — about 8 compared with about 12 in the preceding years. More information will be available soon in Perspectives on Legal Recruiting, which will be published in March."

Re: time lag and data -

NALP publishes data about total numbers of hires from firms. Sometime in March we'll see projected '11 SA class sizes from OCI 2010 for Law School Class of 2012. You'll see these forms, reported from firms, on the NALP directory shortly.

What DF is probably thinking of are the 'go-to' law school reports that lag massively because they provide employment information for a graduating class, i.e. a class that did OCI 2 years prior. (Here's the most recent: http://pdfserver.amlaw.com/nlj/law%20sc ... page12.pdf ). The laggy data comes from the NLJ.

Similar data and similar timing, but massively different 'windows' of the hiring market. It wasn't a big difference in the mushy interstitial years, but the difference in even a month can be mission-critical in the turbulent times we've been through.

Looking for a bit of clarification. So will the results of this recruiting information serve as a "refresh" to all the searchable date on NALP?

I.E. Will there be an update to the specific firms recruiting from each school as well as the SA numbers per each firm?

Not sure where you're getting this from. It sounds like things are a tad better and the hemorrhaging has stopped (e.g. better offer rate), but things aren't picking up "a lot."

This is the stuff I'm interested in. Glad it will be out soon.

oh ok... "still lagging far behind pre-recession levels" and "picked up a lot" are somewhat contradictory, but I don't suppose that anyone took this summary to mean anything more than "things are a tad better and the hemorrhaging has stopped". If anyone did think that, sorry.
