Looking to work as an AUSA, possibly explore a career in politics, but want to earn some money and work in private sector for awhile --(1L at SLS)

Well, landing BigLaw and/or AUSA is going to be difficult coming out of St
Thomas Law School. But if you're looking for the best lit firm in South Florida, try White & Case or Weil . . . though you could also try your hand at networking your SLS alumni base and go this route:

Good luck!

+1. lol @ South Florida. But then, we won't know until OP clarifies...wouldn't we look like fools if OP did mean St. Thomas?

Mofo?
I have heard good things about smaller firms like Farella and Shartsis Friese.
I don't know too much about the SF market since I didn't apply there, but I have read that you should be careful what firm you choose in SF because a lot of the NY-based biglaw firms will close their offices in SF due to too much lit competition in the Bay Area and dearth of M&A work.

If your goal is AUSA you will need 3 yr biglaw (one of those yes can be a fed clerkship). Best advice given to me is to find the firm with the most former AUSA in the district you want to be. A letter/call from a former AUSA will be extremely helpful. Plus firms that have many former AUSA are also top feeders.
