I am starting as a Project Assistant at a Biglaw firm in DC next week. I am also planning on going to law school in the DC area (likely GMU) next fall. Ideally I'd like to get a solid foot in the door at the firm so I have a better chance of being hired by them out of law school. Anyone have any solid advice on how to increase my chances?

Did they know that you're starting law school in the fall when they hired you? Most places I know of aren't too happy when someone quits 6 months after they start.
If they new this, then just kick ass at your jobs and make sure hiring type people know who you are. While your in school try and keep contact with some people at the firm.

I thought that most positions such as yours required a two year committment.

Try to get to know the legal recruiter. Most of the time this person is very outgoing and talkative (like many HR ppl) and they will be happy to talk with you about what the firm looks for in hiring. Just say you're going to law school in the fall and and just want to know their thoughts about hiring and general info about the firm. Don't ask for a job or anything but at least they may recognize your name when you send in your app.
