True, probably a bad choice of words. Perhaps 'interesting,' would have been better.

Are you asking which of the options will give you a better shot at biglaw?

I guess that's a way of phrasing it. Really the question is: If you wanted biglaw, which of the above people would you rather be?

I'd rather be at HYS, especially if it's Yale.

Maybe I should have included Yale as its own category?

Never works that way, which is I'm sure what you are getting at with this post.

This is evidenced by the many transfer students on this board. You can either crush law school exams or you can't. Thus, it is far wiser move to go to a top 6 or so school than to take a full scholly at a top 20 or something like that.

There is no way to know ahead of time if one is apt to crush law school exams or not. That full scholly at a top 20 is an excellent hedge against that risk and is arguably a wise choice.

You just argued for the opposite of your own point - i'd much rather flame out and miss the whole crushing exams part at a t20 with a full ride than sticker at t6....

Way to focus narrowly on my post, guys.

This thread is about somebody wanting biglaw. "Not crushing it" could mean median at HYS, it doesn't necessarily mean the very bottom of the class....I think it's pretty safe to say that you would be better off at median at Harvard if you wanted biglaw than Emory.

Bottom 20% at Yale is a different thing from bottom 20% at Harvard.

Right. There's too much variance among the individual school ranges, especially due to region for lower ranked schools. For example, Top 10% at Fordham is quite different from Top 10% at Arizona in terms of biglaw placement. Top 5% at Cardozo is quite different from Top 5% at some school ranked ~90 in some flyover state.

Setting aside Yale and Stanford, I think placement stats point to Top Third at Vandy as TCR
