Firm Start and End Dates

Trying to plan some vacations but still have not heard anything about start or end dates from my firm. I was wondering if others have heard and if you could post your firm's start/end dates so that I have at least an idea of where to expect. Thanks!

I'll be at an NYC firm. Mine starts the end of May (like May 31st since May 30th is Memorial Day?) to August 5th (Friday of first week in August). Thus, my program is about 10 weeks. Many programs, I think, are 8 weeks though?

Most programs are finished by the first or second week in August.

I have concrete knowledge about five firms in NYC (all between V10 and V40). Each firm is offering a maximum 10 week summer (with a few firms offering an option of 8 or 10 weeks, none are only 8 weeks), and they all begin on either May 16th or May 23rd, thus ending no later than the end of July. FWIW.

Easy enough to fix, thanks for noting it.

My firm offers minimum 8, max 12, ending August 5th. So earliest you can start is may 16th, latest is June 13.

Interesting to know. Since NYU's finals go through May 17, I assume I would not start until May 23rd. Thanks for the info!

Summer programs don't usually extend into August unless you want them to (i.e., you're working in a program that can be 12 weeks long at your election). I would personally work the two extra weeks; that's $6,100! But it's all up to you.

Incidentally, there are firms that let you do up to 14 weeks. Irell once allowed summers to do as many weeks as they wanted, though I hear they've now made it 10 weeks for everyone.

Besides money, is it more advantageous to stay longer if possible?

Not really. If it's at one of the firms I think it's at, you'll just get your offer at your exit interview.

And don't discount the opportunity to work part-time for these firms. I know many who were offered such positions for 3L year after the summer.

My firm (NYC v50) is doing 12 weeks. Is that no longer the norm?

The norm seems to be 10 weeks this year. Back in 2007, firms were doing 12 weeks (or more), but ITE, most people are happy that they a) have a biglaw job and b) are making ~$30k. Even with the slight rebound this year some firms are only offering 8 weeks (and thus SA's are making $6k less).
