Splitting firm summers = 8 week minimum?

I have interviews (but no offers yet) with some BigLaw firms this month. Without getting ahead of myself, I am wondering what I will do if I get offers from more than one.
All of these firms say that they allow split summers on their NALP forms. However, they all also mostly say "8 weeks" under the minimum weeks required. How the hell could someone spend 2 months somewhere and still split somehow? I think my summer is 12 weeks, and that includes law review write-on week after exams, which I'd like to go for. Is 8 weeks really the customary minimum?
