Length of Summer Employment

Hey,

At some point I need to let my judge know when I plan to start / stop my summer internship.

What's the typical length of a summer internship? If I leave around a week after finals, and a week before finals, that gives me 16 weeks. Is that about what most people do? (except those who split their summer). My uninformed inclination is to just work the entire summer, but I wondered if there was a set time period most people stick to.

If you are being paid, work as long as they'll pay you. If not, 10-12 weeks is plenty -- take some time off.

i would say about 9 weeks. take a week off after exams, and finish by end of july, so that you can leave august open for preparing for fall OCI, journals etc.

16 weeks? Wow that seems like a long time. Your school must have a longer break than mine, but make sure to double check the calendar. I originally looked at it and saw 13 weeks, but then realized that I was counting from my last exam to the first day of school. However, OCI happens the two weeks before the first day of classes. Just make sure you aren't counting OCI weeks as part of your break.

Good call. I was basically counting from the end of finals period to the first day of classes. Making room for (potential) journal commitments and OCI isn't something I took into account.

I have never heard of anyone doing more than 12. I would do 10. As little as 8 is probably acceptable.

I'm sure after about 8-10 weeks, the judge will be getting sick of looking over my work anyways.
