GPA --> Class rank calculation
Math geniuses on the board, please help me calculate my approximate class rank.
Assume 3.2 curve, 3.766 is 10%, and I have a 3.64.
Thanks in advance.

Re: GPA --> Class rank calculation
Does this breakdown help in figuring out an approx. rank? GPA = 3.85. Oh, btw, it looks like the curve is actually a 3.4 and not a 3.3, but I am no stats guy, that's for sure. Thanks.

Haha, well at least I wasn't the one that started the thread.....does that make it any better?
On a related note, I am even MORE anxious to get some kind of idea of my % rank b/c I was told that I will not get this rank, under any circumstances, until the end of the year.....sucks for a transfer to not even have an idea of where you stand.

Why can't you just guesstemate based on what your GPA is and last years 1L or 2L breakdown is?Anonymous User wrote:megaTTTron wrote:Dude you have been trying so hard to find someone to help you out. This is a bump in the name of your cause.

To the OP: Top 16%.
To the second poster: I need another data point besides the median (be it top 10%, top 1/3, whatever).

Yeah they won't give it to me.....they are very secretive about grades here. Thanks for the attempt though, I appreciate it.Wavelet wrote:To the OP: Top 16%.

Look up your law school on http://www.nalplawschoolsonline.org/ You might be able to find another data point, since the school might report the Order of the Coif cut off, honors cut offs, etc.

Re: GPA --> Class rank calculation
Thanks for the idea but no luck there either. It just says "see website grading policy..." It didn't even list the usual GPA for Order of the Coif or anything like that.ziggysmarley wrote:Look up your law school on http://www.nalplawschoolsonline.org/ You might be able to find another data point, since the school might report the Order of the Coif cut off, honors cut offs, etc.

Re: GPA --> Class rank calculation
Assuming a normal distribution (which there probably isn't) it's top 16%.

So, what I'm getting from everyone is that it is impossible to know. What about possible bands?megaTTTron wrote:Why can't you just guesstemate based on what your GPA is and last years 1L or 2L breakdown is?Anonymous User wrote:megaTTTron wrote:Dude you have been trying so hard to find someone to help you out. Because who gives a fuck about about GPA other than how it affects your employment.InGoodFaith wrote:Not sure why this is in the legal employment forum.

...boned? That's good enough to get basically any (and maybe actually any) firm job in the country, and good enough for most other types of jobs.Anonymous User wrote:3.593 at UVA -boned?
It's probably around top 15% or so of the class. 3.65 is the back of the envelope for top 10%.
