3.4, chances at V25 big law in: DC, NYC, and Chicago (no real connections to any)
Ok W/E
OK interview skills
Realistically what do I have to pull to for V25?

What's up with all these random GPA posts like any of us know what your curve is.
What's your curve bro?

Assuming UVA's 3.3 curve...
You can almost certainly get big law in NYC, and can probably crack the V25. But DC and Chicago will be much tougher; many people with law review grades got nothing in those cities. That certainly doesn't mean it's hopeless, but if you use all your bids on those cities you have a good chance of striking out.

Always hearing conflicting info about 1L firm jobs and their importance on 2L recruiting. If I have a standing offer at a lower-tier V100 firm in a secondary/third market, would this be greatly beneficial, marginally beneficial, or no status change?
So realistically if I needed big law to pay debt and grades remain the same, play it safe(r) and blanket NYC with bids and withhold from DC/Chicago

There isn't much that I would call "greatly beneficial" at OCI other than grades and law review. Being a 1L SA is definitely a plus though, and if you enter OCI with an offer to return at your previous firm, it will eliminate much of the stress. With regard to bidding strategy (which you really shouldn't be too concerned with until you get your second semester grades), feel free to bid on a few DC and Chicago firms if that's what you want, but you should probably use the majority of your bids on NYC. A 3.4 is certainly sufficient to crack the V25 in DC, but DC firms are quite picky (they can afford to be, given how tiny their class sizes are, especially in this economy), so your odds are better in NYC.

TY Cav, you're very helpful. Main reason I ask this is because I always hear about how much harder DC is to crack than NYC, but in terms of quantitative numbers, I am unfamiliar with the differences. I know a 3.4 would place me around the top third at UVA (this shouldn't out me...). But I just did not know how far top third would take me at NYC relative to DC. Glad to know top third has a shot at V25 NYC. Need big law to pay off debt.

Go talk to KD. OCS has all the numbers you're looking for.
