Will a 1L summer job in Canada hurt my chances in the U.S.?

First off, I'm a dual citizen of Australia and Canada studying in the U.S. on an F1 visa so I realize jobs will be something of an uphill battle no matter what. Because my wife is living in Canada I'm considering looking for something there over my 1L summer. I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts on whether firms at OCI will treat this as equivalent legal experience or if it's something they'll take at a discount.

Am I better off sucking it up and staying in the school area or will it not make much difference if I can explain that the decision was made to be with my family?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

if you're doing legal work, it's legal experience. you can just easily explain it @ OCI
