0L Employment

I am graduating next week, and I need a job for the 7 or so months before 1L. Do law firms prefer such work to be law-related or do they actually want the opposite? I have read contradicting suggestions on this forum, and I wanted to get some feedback.

Thank!

I have no idea, but my guess is they don't give a damn where you work for seven months before school. I work at a firm as a runner, and I know they have qualms about hiring anybody for just seven months, so I'd think it'd be hard for you to go the legal secretary route.

If you have options, take the job that pays the most...

I don't think it really matters, honestly. Maybe something law-related would help you to solidify your desire to practice law (and if you find you hate it, you'd have time to back out before paying $100k+) but that's about the only benefit I can see. Honestly, I say you should do whatever the heck you want for the next 7 months...enjoy yourself, visit friends, travel, etc. Work whatever job appeals to you most.

If the choice is law vs. retail, then do law. At least with law you can make some contacts for later employment as a lawyer. Plus you will get a glimpse of legal work.

What you do for seven months prior to law school won't matter to employers.

law related will help in the absolute slightest of ways come 2L OCI, and i stress the slightest. But it will still be a positive point overall

From what I have gathered, if you could do something interesting that would give you stuff to talk about during an interview that would be ideal.

whatever brings in the most cash AND/OR where you can make connections and get your foot in the door during LS. IMHO retail is prob not going to build your connection base much.
