In general, is it better to physically mail, or to email, your resume and cover letter to firms and organizations if they don't indicate a preference? How about judges?
Thanks.

I snail mailed everything. It takes much longer, costs way more than zero, and dominated the month of December for me last year.
My employer (a judge) told me if I had emailed the chambers instead of snail mailed, they would have ignored me.
So your mileage may vary; I can only say it worked for me.

It seems logical that judges would be more conservative than firm lawyers and would appreciate snail mail more, but surely firms wouldn't have a problem with email.
Of course the personal touch is always nice if you have time.

Email firms/companies/gov't offices. Snail mail judges.

when mass-mailing firms, should I send a writing sample along with the resume/cover letter? or just wait for them to request it?
