Goals - BIGLAW litigation, GVMT as a backup plan.

1) City attorney's office, midsized city, civil litigation division.

2) Elite private criminal defense

3) Constitutional Litigation (federal and state) for a private policy orginization

4) No one fucking cares what you do your 1L summer.

Same. As long as you can talk intelligently during OCI about what you did, and it relates somewhat to the legal profession, your grades will be 100x more important than what you did. Your grades alone can get you interviews/callbacks/offers, while your 1L summer can't.

If not paid, likely not "elite"

Not sure if its paid, but I do know that that you have no idea that you are talking about. Only biglaw and DA's offices that do 1L OCI pay any meaningful amount for 1L summer. I measure eliteness by the client list and the types of cases handled.

Hah, ok 1L. More than just biglaw pays 1Ls. A decent amount of small/mid-sized firms do, as do some government agencies.

What kind of clients does it have thats its elite? And if its elite, then why not take that?

I lump mid law that takes SAs in with BIGLAW.

I'd rather go into detail on the clients.

No Research Asst. option? You get paid, get skills, and firms like it. IMO hands down the best post-1L gig unless you can get a paying firm job.

Haven't looked, seems like it would be a pretty boring thing to do/discuss in interviews. Also have to spend the summer in target market.

I've about had it with OP, who has a long history of being a less than stellar poster. He won't be back for a while.

Thanks! Yea, I was surprised I got anything from OCI to say the least.
