What does it take to get the Skadden 1L internship in NYC - especially from a tier 2 school (rank 67)? Top grades? Family?

or is it just impossible from a tier 2?

Considering Skadden NY hired 3 and 4 1Ls in 2009 and 2010, respectively, and you'd need to be top 5% just to be considered as a 2L, I wouldn't count on it.

Not completely true. While it is ridiculously hard to get a 1L position at any big-firm, a very small number of people at BU get one each year. I know 2 years ago a BU 1L actually worked at Skadden. It happens, but its going to be really arbitrary - there won't be a cutoff, even top 1% of a top law school is by no means a shoe-in for a 1L SA.
