DLA Piper callback/offer thread

Post by Anonymous User » Sun Oct 03, 2010 8:18 pm

It seems as if DLA Piper's late sweep is now under way, so I thought I'd start a thread seeing as I'm interviewing next week and I'm sure a lot of others are too. For many this will be last chance at biglaw, so best of luck and post when you have callbacks/offers and to share info and stats.

Please be kind, no memes or other derogatory comments about this employer. This thread is anything but a joke.

Thread is intended for any/all offices, since they all seem to be doing this late interviewing.

Wow, that was impressive. Very clever.

I don't get the "Enjoy dla piper" joke.
And this should not be a cause to use the anonymous post function.

dla piper is a Vault 100 firm, pays market and has a 8-wk summer program, like many other firms.

Why do people make fun of DLA Piper all the time?

Because some people on these happen to be very snobbish. The fact of the matter is, a firm is a firm, and dla is in the 50's on Vault (whatever that means).

Actually, they don't quite pay market--associate salaries start at $145K. Moreover, associate salaries don't advance by class year. Instead, DLA has adopted a three-tier compensation structure, not unlike Orrick (though it is unlike Orrick in that each tier yields substantially lower compensation). In short, you'll be "enjoying" $145K for 2-3 years before seeing any pay raise.

Better than no job, obviously, but let's not pretend that they're on equal footing with most other biglaw firms...

Lower T50
Top 5% LR

Got a callback to a smaller, regional office this work. I had a couple other CBs, but either got dinged or haven't heard back yet, so hopefully dla piper works out.

How do we know where they start at? I've read that they lowered salary to 145, but wanted to raise it back up.

I just received a callback with one of DLA's offices. Going to schedule something with them soon.

Does anyone have info on their callback format? Are the questions just basic personality and resume? Or do they ask you about the writing sample? How can I succeed on a callback with the firm and what is it about them that would help me show interest?

ANYONE WHO HAS HAD A CALLBACK that wouldn't mind providing info would be great. I'm told they have a specific format in which they interview and I want to know how I can do well.

Thanks!!!!

^ it differs greatly depending on the office. dla piper isn't a very cohesive unit, due to the unusual setup.

Pretty sure the first wave is at the same time as everyone else. dla piper is HUGE though, so I imagine it is difficult to fill a summer class in that first wave. Hence the substantial second one.

I am trying to decide if I want to keep after the San Diego office. I already have an offer at a place I love in DC, but DC is not San Diego...
