taking an offer at a firm that did layoffs vs. a SAFE firm

Has anyone done this?
I'm looking at one firm that had fairly large layoffs, which because of its location, practice, etc, I'd rather work at.
On the other hand, I have an offer from one of the most conservative and safe firms out there - but its in a worse location, and is generally more boring.
Question: Did anyone have reservations about ITE and the firm's track record that tipped the balance in favor of accepting at a safer/more secure firm that you liked less?
Given the next few years of ITE, is it stupid to take a firm that has fired people over one that did not?
