Cahill doesn't really do IP stuff. I think they do soft IP, like copyright, but they do not have a big patents group.

Skadden DC has a strong litigation group and a strong national reputation. Its one of the largest branch offices in DC. And, there's way more job stability/firm stability at Skadden versus Latham. (Sidebar program versus laying off 50% of your associates)

layoffs notwithstanding, does latham or skadden have a stronger litigation practice/exit options?

Honestly, I think exit options at either will be fine. Exit options are what you make of them. Having the big firm training will help you out immensely, regardless of where you came from and where you intend to end up. Pick the firm you will be happiest at NOW - because the "exit" won't happen for another 3-4 years, and there are no guarantees that far down the line.

In DC, Latham's litigation practice seems much better (top appellate litigation, etc.). Lots of back-and-forth there between government (David Hayes, Alice Fisher, Greg Garre, Jose Fernandez)
