1L at a top 26 law school, 4 years of accounting experience, Big 4 , CPA, summa cum laude undergrad in accounting and finance. No grades yet, naturally. Chances at getting 1L SA at big law transactional? Tips on where to apply?

If non-URM and you don't have any special "in," your chances are roughly 0%.

A guy with credentials similar to mine from UVA got 3 1L SA offers. Not a URM and no special in. T26 is not UVA, but there seems be huge demand for accountants in transactional practice. I know it is not a shoe in, mainly looking for advises in raising that 0% to 1.5%.

Apply to firms that hire 1Ls. Get good grades. Pray.
What were you expecting to hear?

I think you're wasting your time if you're trying to target 1L apps. Spam away, man.

1L at Columbia/NYU (don't want to specify). Black male. How do I find out which firms have 1L summer positions? And how do I apply to those positions in December without grades?

You simply apply without a transcript-- firms understand that you don't have grades yet. Just include a line in your introductory letter/ email saying you'll be more than happy to send along grades as soon as they become available.
BTW your best shot at a 1L summer gig is, at least the way I see it, to apply for a diversity fellowship or diversity law clerk something. A good number of firms seem to have these (I noticed while I was applying that I had no shot at these places as a 1L, being non-URM.) The firms will list and describe the program in the careers section of their website; shouldn't be hard to put together a (relatively small) list, depending on the city you want.
Hope this helps!
And, unsolicited advice, don't waste hundreds of hours mass-mailing for a 1L gig; I did it and it was a complete waste of time (HYS, median grades.) Do what you can through networking and focus like hell on nabbing a substantive PI job, preferably in the market you want to lottery into for 2L OCI, and that will give you ample things to talk about in interviews re: transferable skills, etc. Best of luck!

Ignorant guy is ignorant. At my T20, I happen to know several classmates off the top of my head who got 1L Biglaw SAs before their grades came out - all because they had work experience. At least one of them had been in accounting before law school. Work experience is the most important factor for getting a 1L SA.
OP, apply on December 1st and blanket the big firms in your target market. It's always a crapshoot, but I think you stand a damn fine chance of getting a position.

Yeah that was about the point at which I stopped taking this thread seriously.
On a serious note, there are some firms that hire 1Ls. I know of one in my local market that likes to "breed from within" or so I hear. But it is rare, especially if you are not a URM.

There are diversity fellowships for URM's outside of SEO?

SEO is a 0L thing. There a lot of diversity programs that aim specifically at 1Ls.

second of all, even non-urm 1L have chances. whoever the fuck said NALP was not helpful obviously never looked at NALP.....u can search by what firms higher 1L SAs...
PSA: Aside from NALP being helpful, they also have guidelines. Your CSO/CDO is not allowed to give advice until November, so do not TALK TO THEM NOW.

No, he/she should talk to the 2Ls and 3Ls now, who would probably give better advice and better yet, not get the OP in trouble.
