One offer says $3,080 a week last year, and that they will be competitive this year with the market.
Another says $6,666.66 every 2 weeks.
Both are v20 firms paying market.
Will they be the same this summer, or are there slight variations?

There are slight variations.
Please tell me you're not going to make your decision based on said slight variations.

SA jobs are pro-rated 1st yr associate salaries, are they not? If your firm pays 145, then you'll get that over the 8-10 wks. Same story for 160.

Is the second offer from Satan & Satan, LLP? 'Cause as I remember, 666 is the number of the beast.

Now that I look at the second offer, I believe the firm pays twice a month rather than once every two weeks. In that case, the yearly comes out to $160,000/yr.

You're right. The first firm pays once a week, the second pays twice a month - and the totals are the same.

1st year associates make 160K/year at market paying firms.
Some firms divide by 12, then do twice a month payments. Some divide by 52 and do weekly payments. The accounting will make it weird, but it'll only be differences of dollars and cents on the margin.
The good news is that NY is going to 190, so anybody who accepts an offer will likely see 2+ raises before they even start work! YEAH!

After all, the recession ended in June 2009. I guess firms didn't yet realize!

Isn't the take home pay of someone making 160k in New York something lik3 95K after taxes?

Pay check city has the answer. It depends on whether you live in NYC or Jersey, but yeah take home is in the ~95 neighborhood for NYC after taxes. Take home is like ~113 IIRC in the most tax-favorable location (places with no state or city income tax). NYC will also have a higher cost of living.
Of course, you're paying for living in (or near) New York City as opposed to bumble fuck. For most people, a few grand on the margin of an already amusingly inflated salary is much less important than the actual people and surroundings they will make their life in.

Living in Jersey saves you about $5k in taxes, which all plus some will be spent on transportation.

IIRC Pay Check City is only giving you the withholding amount- not your final tax liability. Because state and local income taxes are deductible, your final tax liability will likely be somewhat less that it would otherwise suggest in places like NYC.

if two biglaw lawyers marry each other, with no kids, do their taxes go down? clueless as to this stuff. cause yknow intuitively now you need less money than 320k, at least before kids and whatnot

You'd be well in to marriage penalty stage by then, I think.

Because the failure-and-tardiness rate of the $54/month PATH trains can't beat the failure-and-tardiness rate of the $89(soon to be $100? $130?)/month MTA, so PATH has to pay more to
The Arbiter, which payments PATH then passes on to the customer as a premium.

dunno wtf you meant there but PATH <<<<< MTA. mostly cause with PATH there's only one line you can take to get where you're going. and late at night, the freight trains just taunt you, and more frequently than the "oh wow there's so much room on this train oh wait it's not opening its doors"

Ehhh. If you haven't seen the MTA freight trains, you don't stay up late enough. And while it's technically true that the MTA provides alternate routes, you're going to be hella late if you ever need to take one.

What I meant was that it's a joke to think that you'd spend over $5k more on transportation commuting from NYC to NJ than by just living in NYC. 'Cause, y'know, $54/month is less than $89(and potentially $100? $130?)/month.
