Thank you emails or letters, after callbacks

To people specifically looking in NY market; How big a deal do we think thank you emails or letters are? I had 5 nyc callbacks and didn't write either. Hoping it doesn't hurt the cause, but thinking it might.

You're doomed!! J/k j/k, I have no idea, but I find the amount of hand-wringing over thank you notes pretty hilarious. (Having said that, I do spend a couple of hours on them after callbacks--I'm not targeting NY though)

I didn't even consider actual hand-written thank you notes, as given some callbacks had me seeing 9 different interviewers. I did consider emails though, and I just never got around to it. Just curious from someone who might have some experience working at these big NY law firms how much they matter, if at all.

Does size of firm matter in whether to send thank-you notes?

I know in some of the other thank you note threads, people were saying things like they can only hurt and are not necessary, but everyone in real life I've talked to (at a T6) thinks sending thank you notes is just one more part of the process. Almost like it doesn't really help, but is expected nonetheless. I know I'd feel kind of uncomfortable thinking that I might be the only person who didn't bother typing out a thank you email.

Just suck it up, and put a little personalized tidbit about the interview in it, hopefully connecting it to why you are both highly interested in and a good fit for the firm.

I'm really glad you brought this up, I'm amazed it hasn't been discussed before : )

Was that sarcasm, Disco? If so, please point me to the link.
I didn't write them; too late now. From what I have read in the Northeastern cities, roughly 50% of the people will write thank you emails or notes. No idea on the accuracy of those stats.

Amen. If you are considering starting a thread on the topic of thank you notes, IP litigation, or travel reimbursement, DON'T.

FWIW, I had 8 cbs, wrote zero thank yous (OCI & CBs), received: 3 offers, 2 dings, and 3 silence.

Note: all were NYC, I'm T14, Top 1/3, IP lit.

I was just about to make a thread asking if it would be tacky to ask for travel reimbursement for airport parking in a thank you note to a firm after a call back for an IP lit job. Good thing you warned me first.
