I've got a lot of silence from a bunch of firms I had screening interviews with.

I'm thinking of sending LOCIs telling them when I'll be in town on other interviews in case they want to have me in. I'm assuming this is a good idea, but who do you think is the best person to send it to: the interviewers, who game me their card, or to the HR people?

Uh, I wouldn't send an LOCI. Better to call the firm and just check on your status. This isn't like being on a WL with law schools.

So what do you say when you call the recruiter? Do you ask about your status? Tell them you'll be in the area? Tell them you'd do anything for a position?

Just say you interviewed on such and such a date with so and so, and you wanted to check on your status.

How long has it been, by the way? If fewer than 2 weeks, don't call.

Credited. This is especially true if you have deadlines with other firms approaching. I've called a couple of firms this morning. I received a phone call from one of the firms earlier this afternoon extending an offer.

Some have been over two weeks, some just under. Maybe I should just wait til Friday and call all of them?

What about after cbs? Say they gave you a "roughly" two-week time frame and it has been closer to 3 weeks (albeit the past week had a few holidays in it). Call and get a status update or keep waiting?

Aside from that, while I think two weeks is a good rule of thumb, I think it's late enough in the "we haven't decided on your screening interview" stage of the recruiting season to give firms a ring.

Not always true. I, surprisingly, got two CBs after 2 weeks--one was about 16 days later, and the other was closer to 3 weeks.

Bumping this particular question. But to add, you don't have any offers outstanding, just a few CBs that are past the time-frame the firms gave you.

Is such contact desperate? Obnoxious? Warranted? FML?

What about if you have updates? Got an A in a summer class, selected for a moot court team. Is it a good idea to send an email with attachments (resume and transcript) then? To the screening interviewer?

No. This is not law school admissions. They have met you. They are deciding. Feel free to inquire about your status, but "LOCIs" and updates are just desperate.

MrKrappus: I have found conflicting info on this- should one email or call? The popular suggestion is to email, but TLS readers recommend calling. What is the proper protocol?

In my experience, few recruiters pick up their phones. E.g., when scheduling my CB's, I've almost always had to leave a message and wait for them to call back. Email might allow a person to respond at his/her convenience and provide a better-researched response. That said, it's just a matter of personal pref, I'd think. Good luck w/ whatever you decide...
