I went on a callback interview last week (secondary market near a major market). I go to school in an area where taxi transportation to airports is expensive and the cab to and from the airport to the secondary market in the destination city was very expensive too (all in all figure 4*$80-90). The firm covered my hotel and flight and took me out to lunch (I also ordered breakfast the morning of the interview, ~$15).. I was only interviewing with one firm, so the total cost of my trip is probably close to (if not more than) $1000 for a single office. I know firms are supposed to pay for these things, but I'll be asking for almost $400 of costs to be reimbursed and I'm feeling like that's a lot.

Has anyone else had a similar experience and/or asked for similar amounts to be reimbursed? I didn't rent a car and I only had the firm pay for one night in the hotel because I knew people in my destination city...I'm just not sure what kind of costs most of you end up incurring on callback trips...

I'm not worried about getting dinged because of something like this (before anyone asks), I just tend to be cautious with my money and am self-sufficient so I feel strange asking for that much from someone else.

I have a CB with a DC firm. The hotel their travel service set me up with runs about $1000 a night. So add in travel, reasonable food expenses, etc., and its a rather expensive trip. The firm has no problem reimbursing me for the grand total. Other firms may differ, though.

On the way out the door, I mentioned I was going to catch the train back to the city I was staying in and the recruiter said "oh no! take a cab!" She handed me a cab voucher, knowing full well taking a taxi would cost $120. I don't think a few hundred dollars means jack shit to these firms.
