Post here when you get calls and identify the Judge and/or District and/or Circuit.

As someone who has received a clerkship offer, I can say that I really doubt many people are going to be willing to out themselves in this fashion. Clerkship interview calls are a much smaller world than firm calbacks, heh.

Plus, judges aren't making calls until next Monday rite?!?!?!?!!

The level of rejection I could face Monday is staggering. Across the country-type rejection.

I wish I knew the % of judges ostensibly on-plan who actually will begin calling on Monday. Because a LOT of them are calling already.

I received a firm "no" from a judge. But in my list of a couple hundred judges, I would say he or she was one of the least likely due to location. I appreciated the contact though, if I had a smaller pool, or cared more about that one judge it would have helped me out more.

Is there a ton of judges calling already? I'm applying to fly-over judges and haven't heard anything yet. Should I be worried?

No. After Monday you should worry with me.

The conventional wisdom is that flyover judges who claim to be on plan usually stick to plan because they aren't competing for the ultra-top-tier candidates. Pretty sure this doesn't hold true for COA judges in the middle of the country, though, because some of them seem to be circumventing the plan. I'm hoping that only CA judges and other randoms are making calls at the moment.

Nevermind. Suffice it to say, 7th Circuit pulls some pretty competitive candidates.

Yah - I was really more referring to 5th, 8th, etc. Regardless of its location in the middle of the country, I don't think 7th Circuit would really fall under the "flyover" category.

In other news, I hate this fucking process from the bottom of my heart and am second-guessing myself so hard after not getting any early calls.

Good luck to everyone who applied. I am assuming that if I don't hear early this week I'm SOL. Lots of D. Cts. in competitive areas. Also, the hiring plan is stupid.

is there any way of finding out which judges would be better or worse to work for? My school's clerkship databases are basically worthless, and I don't know any past clerks. particularly interested in sdny gossip.

Anyone hear anything this morning?

For judges you are unfamiliar with re; interview style (substantive, laid back etc.). What are you doing to prep?

Questions to be prepared for regardless?

I am T-6, top 15%, secondary journal board (not EIC), decent recommendations. I applied to about 250 OSCAR judges, throughout the country, plus many judges who were surreptitiously hiring. I received one interview from a DC. Similarly situated students that I know from my LS did about the same, although those w/ strong relationships with profs seemed to have a real edge. I know of T-14, ~Top 25% + LR who applied across the board and got shut out.

Bloodbath.

T25 - top 2% - LR - published - solid recs & two profs who made personal calls. 2 interviews.

Are u guys talking about post-graduation paid clerkships or just summer clerkships?

Post grad. There is no such thing as summer clerkships. Those are internships.

The posters ITT are talking about post graduation full-time year long clerkships with federal judges who are hiring 3Ls under the Federal Hiring Plan rules, which permitted calls to be made for the first time at 10:00 AM today.

The system has internal consistency and logic if you call summer positions internships, but that usage is definitely not universally adhered to.

I work for a fed. judge and ppl refer to me as a clerk, not an intern.

T14, top 20%, LR. 3 district court interviews.

I don't put law clerk on my resume, I was just justifying my question about whether you guys were referring to post graduation clerkships or summer positions. Since the terms are AT TIMES used interchangeably i was wondering what you all were talking about. Obviously, I did not read the whole thing.

Did your friends have profs that called? How did they build those relationships (RA, note, office hours)? Is it best to get to know multiple profs or one really well?

UCLA/UT/Vandy, top 10%, board position on secondary journal, recs from well known faculty and a district court judge that I externed for.

Applied to about 125 district court judges, and not a single call. Ouch.

Wow. Is this standard? I'm praying I get any D.Ct. next year given all this (because I'm not LR).
