response to congratulation emails

generally, is a response warranted to emails from callback interviewers congratulating you on an offer? if so, would ending the email with a sentence to the effect of "Thanks again for the offer - I will let you know as soon as I've made a decision" sound awkward? If so, what do you guys think would be the best way to end the email?

I just say I was very happy to meet them, ty for the opportunity, will be in touch soon, and will definitely let them know if I have any further questions. The important things are to emphasize your enthusiasm for the firm (and how much you enjoyed the CB) along with your appreciation of the offer.

Sounds fine. Can't hurt.
"Thanks so much for the opportunity. I look forward to speaking with you soon."

Also, I think one should respond to congratulatory emails. Always.

Nah, bro, has to be more than 'thanks.' Just 'thanks' sounds a bit snarky. What if it is a partner e-mailing it? You need to say smthg about how you liked visiting the firm and are very happy with the opportunity.

You are thinking this from the perspective of a law student. When you work at firm, you get thousands of emails every day. People really don't care about those extra empty words you throw in the email. If you feel like you have to do it, go ahead. But it seems like you're just creating a lot of unnecessary stress.
I disagree. It does make a difference. Maybe next time I will do: "TY, ttyl!"

I talked to a friend of mine who is in a high executive position -- not at a law firm, but she interviews people all the time. She said that long, obsequious emails disgust her. She called them "Uriah Heepish".
