Have offers from a couple NYC V5's and DC V10's. Leaning towards litigation, but I want summer exposure to corporate. Long term plan - stay 5 years and evaluate whether or not to stay or go to the government. Also, I married, so I would like to see my spouse on a regular basis.

Generally recognized that DC has saner hours than NYC.

Those cities couldn't possibly be more different. Surely you have some inkling of an idea about the kind of place you want to live?

I second that. But you don't have to live in NYC, you know. My dad has worked in NYC for decades but raised his family in suburban NJ where we still live.

OP here - honestly, I like both cities. Are they different? yes, but, I like aspects of both.

In your experience, are there any real difference in exit options? (assuming one doesn't want to work in financial services)

Depends on the DC V10. If W&C, Covington, or Kirkland DC, I don't think there'd be anything substantial in terms of exit option differences.

I agree, but it's easier in DC because you can have a house for cheaper, and still have a somewhat decent commute to work.
It should be noted however that cost of living in DC and its nearby suburbs is still very expensive. Also, the DC area has some of the worst traffic in the nation.

I don't disagree, but I have a family, and I much prefer NYC to DC, so it's really just a matter of taste.
